South Ellsworth Road (South of Empire Blvd to Cloud Rd) Project UPDATE

Since your residence is located near the South Ellsworth Road (South of Empire Blvd to Cloud Rd) Project, or you’ve expressed an interest in the project, we’d like to provide some tentative construction information related to this topic. We will do our best to provide the most up-to-date information; however, please remember that construction schedules can be impacted by a variety of factors, to include weather, materials scheduling, and school calendars and local events. If you prefer not to receive these updates, please reply to this e-mail so we can remove your information. We thank you for your patience during this construction!

For additional project information, please check out our website at Attached is our most current newsletter which you may have already received in the mail, but I thought I’d attach it in case you haven’t received it yet.

Tentatively scheduled for the week of December 13th, contractor crews will pave the east side of Ellsworth Road. To accommodate this paving activity, Mews and Pegasus will be CLOSED on the east side of Ellsworth Road for approximately one week to prevent traffic from traveling on the prepared surface or while paving is being conducted.

Scheduled to take place Monday, December 20th, Ellsworth Road traffic will be shifted to the east side of Ellsworth Road, so that crews can begin work on the west side of Ellsworth Road and begin construction of the box culvert under the Ellsworth Road/Empire Road intersection. This traffic shift will be in place until approximately mid-March 2011.

The box culvert under the Ellsworth Road/Empire Road intersection will span from the northwest to the southeast corner of the intersection, and to accommodate this construction, both Empire Road and Ellsworth Road at the intersection will not permit through traffic. Northbound Ellsworth Road traffic approaching the intersection will be directed westbound on Empire Boulevard and eastbound Empire Boulevard traffic approaching the intersection will be directed southbound on Ellsworth Road. In addition, southbound Ellsworth Road traffic approaching the intersection will be directed eastbound on Empire Boulevard, and westbound Empire Boulevard traffic approaching the intersection will be directed northbound on Ellsworth Road. The traffic signal at this intersection will not be operational as there will be no thru traffic permitted at the intersection across the construction zone. Detour routes will be marked with traffic control signage.

Crews are working at Empire Road to relocate utilities as necessary in the project area. You will be notified via a door hanger if your water service will be disrupted as part of a planned water shutdown.

Grading crews continue work to build, or balance, the subsurface for the south half of Riggs Road and the north half of Santan Road. Work will continue on the construction of a box culvert under Ellsworth Road at Riggs Road, which includes an equestrian underpass, and is being constructed one-half at a time to accommodate traffic.

The Maricopa County Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Town of Queen Creek and Pinal County, has begun improving Ellsworth Road from approximately 1,250 feet south of Empire Boulevard to Cloud Road. Improvements include widening the existing two-lane roadway to six lanes (three travel lanes in each direction), installing curb and gutter, raised center median, bike lanes, drainage and intersection improvements at San Tan Boulevard, Riggs Road (including the installation of a traffic signal) and Cloud Road. Temporary closures or lane restrictions can be anticipated; however, access will be maintained at all times for residents, businesses and emergency vehicles.
