MAY IS NATIONAL ELECTRICAL SAFETY MONTH

Electricity is part of our everyday lives.  It is safe, convenient, and is used for so many purposes that it is often taken for granted.  However, like any form of energy, it must be respected.  Each year, in our homes, schools and workplaces, lives are lost, persons are injured, and property is destroyed or damaged as a result of needless and often preventable electrical accidents.  During National Electrical Safety Month and always… learn and practice electrical safety including:

  • Routinely check your home and workplace for electrical hazards,
  • Install smoke alarms and ground fault circuit interrupters,
  • Test smoke alarms and ground fault circuit interrupters monthly and after any electrical storm,
  • Protect all underground utilities, always call 811 before digging, and
  • Always hire qualified professionals to do electrical modifications or additions.

Whether or not you are a City of Mesa electric or natural gas customer, you are a valued member of the community.  Learn the basics of energy safety and share your knowledge and awareness with your family, community and coworkers.  Education and awareness of energy safety is a first step to helping keep communities safe…energy safety is everyone’s responsibility.
